SOMEBODY WATCHING YOU

 

The filling station canopy and the shopping mall have surveillance cameras watching you. The traffic officer with the radar gun is watching you. Your office supervisor is watching you at work. The lifeguard is watching you at the beach. Hopefully these watchers are seeing us on our good behavior.

Your children are watching you at home. They watch you work around the house. They watch you in your spare time. They watch you react to your spouse, the telemarketer, and the program on TV. They are learning from you and will imitate your behavior and language someday. They are forming lifetime habits by your example. Hopefully your example is a good one.

But consider this: "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good" (Proverbs 15:3). He is watching you even when no police officer, supervisor or family member is around. He is watching you in the light of day and the dark of night. He is beholding the evil and the good which are determined by His standards. And He will judge you according to what He sees.

Now we would like for Him to see the good and judge us favorably, but good deeds do not earn favor or merit toward salvation. We tremble at the thought of His seeing us at our worst and judging us accordingly, but that is part of the record against us. We cannot block out what we do not wish Him to see.

But there is hope. John the Baptist introduced Jesus with these words: "Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Paul wrote, ". . .Christ died for our sins . . ." (I Corinthians 15:3). If your record is not removed, you will perish for eternity, "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23a). Christ paid that penalty and His payment is accounted as yours when you receive Him as your personal Savior. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). Believe that He is the Son of God and the only remedy for sin. Believe that He died in your place, for your sins, paying your penalty. Believe that God raised Him from the dead declaring God’s satisfaction with His payment for sin. Believe that He will save you as He promised and trust Him alone for your salvation. Do it today. Tomorrow might be too late.
